I believe everyone in technology has a responsibility to be ethical. I integrate design ethics as a practice into my work and push companies to reduce harmful outcomes.
As an experienced design team lead, I regularly contribute org level design strategy and help to shape future direction through design-first product thinking.
I am a strong advocate for Human Centered Design and use this approach in every project. I partner closely with UX Research to deeply understand the people I design for.
Most of my experience has been for designing complex systems. I specialize in taking on ambiguity and complexity and turning it into a clean exeprience.
The Red Cross/Red Crescent's Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) program has been helping at-risk populations recover from disaster for over 30 years. I consulted with the Red Cross/Red Crescent to audit potential ethical harms that may arise from scaling this program with new technology and developed design principles to help protect these at-risk communities.
View ProjectMany people in the LGBTQ+ community – especially those that are transgender or gender non-conforming – face a number of challenges in the healthcare system. I worked with Planned Parenthood to address their patient intake experience to be more inclusive of all genders and sexual orientations.
View ProjectAt the University of Washington, I partnered with healthcare researchers who specialize in teen mental health to design more ethical data collection and intervention strategies.
View ProjectIn addition to my role as a Product Designer, I am also a design educator and design career mentor. I teach design classes at the University of Washington in the Human Centered Design and Engineering program, as well as at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle. Classes include User Centered Design, Visual Design for UX, UX Design Capstone, and more.
For one on one design career coaching, I offer online mentoring through Superpeer. Mentoring is available to designers early in their career who need help getting started in the industry, as well as more mid-level and senior designers who would like support in their development as a design leader.
I am also launching a YouTube channel dedicated to discussing design career growth! Stay tuned for more updates.
Alik is a fantastic product design partner. I have worked closely with him for ~ 1.5 years on various design and strategy projects for Facebook's Enterprise landscape. Alik is highly skilled in visual design, user experience and deeply understanding and creating user interaction patterns.
Alik's role as a User Experience Designer in our design team has been instrumental in making insightful decisions for our Loyalty products and streamlining our content updates. I am his counter-point in the design process and he is incredibly easy to work with, is empathetic to how we work together and encompasses much passion for the process.
Alik has a great sense of professionalism and commitment to quality. His experience, adroit observation, and work ethic made it easy to work alongside Alik. I knew I could count on him to offer support, advice, and thoughtfulness at the right moment. I really enjoyed working with Alik.
